Why you should learn to love the tourists hordes of Dubrovnik

We were away in Dubrovnik for a long weekend. Time was too tight to sweat the small stuff.

We wanted a full-throttle tourist trot, bang mainstream. As everyone should. It’s what keeps Croatia afloat. And a good narrative from a minibus driver was a fine start, well worth the price of a family saloon.

So we went to the old town which, as you probably knew, is stoutly preserved, the jewel (or pearl or beryl) of the Adriatic. If you didn’t know, everyone else did, for they were all at the Pile city gate ahead of us. No worries. Never complain about “tourist hordes”. If you’re there, you are part of the horde, not distinct from it. There is no dispensation because of your acknowledged wonderfulness…
